Ode—to Gwyn
Context
This project was created for artisan—a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting contemporary craft and design. They needed a visual identity for an exhibition they initiated in memory of Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, one of the most significant Australian ceramic artists.
Design
Gwyn’s pottery evokes a sense of peace and “quietness”, which I expressed through a neutral yet soft sans-serif typeface and minimal graphics. In her still lifes, she explored shadows and the relationships between objects. I translated this into the logo using repetition, overlapping, negative space, and a combination of two types of vinyl.
Another key requirement for the client was low-cost production, which we achieved through compact sizing and simple shapes.
